Steve x Reader ~ Chapter 1 ~
First Day at Practice

- Your POV -

It was your first day of marching band camp. Everything was going great; you'd gotten your new (band instrument) just in time and it wasn't unbearably hot outside. You glanced over at the football field as your director talked about the program you were playing. Sighing, you noticed Steve, who was standing off to himself in his football shorts. He looked a little awkward, honestly. This was going to be his first full year at your school, and you were glad to see that he was attempting to make some friends. Ever since he transferred into your school (and into both your math AND science classes) halfway through last year, you'd had a huge crush on him. With his perfect blonde hair and athletic body, how could you not? A lot of other girls liked him too though. You sighed again, knowing he'd never go for a band geek like you.

Suddenly, your friend (Friend #1) snapped her fingers in front of your face as you noticed the director had asked you a question. A red color flooded onto your cheeks as you stuttered, "W-what?"

Your director chuckled, saying never mind and mumbling something about teenagers and hormones. You blushed even harder at that, while (Friend #1) rolled her eyes. "You really need to tell him (Your Name). You're getting ridiculous!" she said, in an exasperated tone. "You can't do this all Summer!"

With a look of defeat you nodded, "I know, but AGHGHHH I've barely even talked to him and I'm so lame and..."

"NO!" your friend yelled. "We're not doing this again. But you do need help and I'm obviously not the person to ask, seeing as I've been going solo for... PRETTY MUCH MY WHOLE LIFE."

Glancing at one of the taller boys in the band, you looked back at her and nodded halfheartedly, giving her a look of disbelief.

"Let's go find (Friend #2)," she said, glaring at you.

You weren't sure how she would be any better than (Friend # 1), but you followed anyways.

- Steve's POV -

Looking up at the hot sun, I took a drink from my water bottle and continued to stand away from the other guys. They kind of scared me, just because of their size and way of being. They were all totally different from me. For one thing, I knew war a shower was. I also knew that girls aren't just toys and they deserve respect. These things were normal for me, but apparently not for most of the guys at this school. Coming into a new school in the 2nd Semester of Junior Year was pretty lame, but this wasn't a horrible school to come to. There were a lot of nice teachers, and I already had a sizable fan club of girls. But that didn't really matter to me. Actually, I'd much rather them leave me alone. With one of the fan girls always around, it's been hard to get to know (Your Name), my favorite person that I'd met here so far. She'd been in my math and science classes last year, and she'd given me photocopies of her perfectly written notes from the 1st semester that I'd missed. Without those notes, there's no way I could've passed the class.

I looked up again and noticed her and her friend (Friend #1) walking back towards the school. (Your Name) was in the marching band, a fact I'd learned from (Friend #2), her other friend, who seemed to know everything about her. (Your Name) doing marching band was actually one of the reasons I signed up for this disaster of a sport. One, I could see (Your Name) every day, and two, I'm not too bad at the game, so being a football star had to make her notice me, right? I thought back to what (Friend #2) had told me the last day of school...

"(Your Name) really likes you already, Steve. Trust me. After partner days in Science, all I hear is Steve, Steve, Steve," she’d said.

I still don't really believe it, even after catching (Your Name) staring at me multiple times, including today. I'm pretty sure (Your Name) didn't know that though.

"(Your Name)!" I called out your name, waving at her and (Friend #1). She waved back shyly, and I grinned. (Friend #1) whispered something to her, but (Your Name) shook her head violently and blushed at whatever she said. She gave me one last look before they continued walking.

"STEVE! I will not have slackers on my team! You don't have time for girls. Drop and give me 20, soldier!" said my ex-marines coach.

I groaned and did the push-ups as the rest of the team left the field. I then grabbed my water bottle and followed them to the locker room.

- Your POV -

You and (F #1) found (F #2) sitting in her normal spot beside the soda machine. She came to school sometimes to meet you and (F #1) after practice.

(F #1) immediately went up to (F #2) and hit her. "Did you write more of your story yet?" she asked as she glanced at the purple notebook in (F #2)'s hands, "Oh, (Your Name) needs Steve help too."

(F #2) handed (F #1) the notebook, which she proceeded to hit (F #2) with. (F #2) did this weird eyebrow thing at the sound of your crush's name.

"I'm not sure if you're even the right person to talk to ab-" you started.

"Being the philosopher that I am, I obviously know how to deal with these situations," (F #2) interrupted, "Just tell him how you feel or something. It'll all work out fine, I promise."

Suddenly, (F #2) grabbed her purse, a look of urgency on her face. She handed you a wad of paper. Grabbing (F #1), she asked/told you, "Throw that away for me?!" as they ran off.

"What the lump you guys?" you yelled back, totally confused.

You walked over to the trash can anyways. Your head was down so you didn't notice the other person walking to the trash. As you threw the trash in the can, your hand brushed another and you looked up. There was Steve, his hair still wet from a shower (or so you hoped), in a T-shirt and cargo shorts. You quickly pulled your hand away and felt your face grow hot.

"Hey (Your Name)! Long time no see!" he chuckled.

You smiled back as he continued, "Umm... I've been hearing that they're going to be sending out schedules soon, so when you get yours, can you text me what classes you have?" he asked, handing you a piece of paper.

You thought you noticed a little pink on his cheeks as he waved goodbye and ran off.

"Bye Steve!" you yelled after him, your voice finally letting you speak.

You made sure to wait until he was long gone before starting a victory/Snoopy happy dance as your friends suddenly appeared from another hallway.

"So?" asked (F #2), pretending like she hadn't just watched the whole thing.

You held up the paper as if it were an item in a Legend of Zelda game and triumphantly reported, "He gave me his number!"
This is my first ever fanfiction! And it's a reader insert, so whoop.
Let me know if you guys like this so far. I have a little bit more written, and I've been working on it whenever I have time, so Chapter 2 may be up soon. (I have up to chapter 5 posted at this point!) If you see any grammatical errors, please let me know!

So in this story you're a band geek. Yay! And I'm not sure how I'm working in that Steve is Cap because you guys are in high school and I just don't know. xD It's senior year for both of you, just to clear up any confusion.

Steve belongs to Marvel. I only own the plot!

EDIT~ I've added this to some groups, so for all you people reading this now, if you like the story, here's a link to the next chapter: pikachulover36.deviantart.com/…

I totally understand if you don't really like this though, I wrote it half a year ago, and it's a little rough... Sweating a little...
